Kaohsiung, Kitakyushu Send Aid to Yatsushiro

Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City and Kitakyushu City jointly sent emergency supplies to Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, on August 3 following earthquake damage in the area. Kaohsiung provided funding, while Kitakyushu purchased drinking water, body wipes, and other hygiene items based on local needs. Kitakyushu officials visited Yatsushiro to assess conditions and arranged delivery to facilities for older residents. A municipal bus was used instead of a commercial logistics operator to speed up transport. Kitakyushu Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi said the vehicle could also serve as a cooling shelter during hot weather. The aid followed an offer from Kaohsiung, which has friendship agreements with Kumamoto Prefecture and Kumamoto City, as well as a partnership agreement with Kitakyushu. The shipment marked the first phase of the two cities’ joint relief effort. Source: Nikkei / KBC News
