Kitakyushu Advances Physical AI Plans

Kitakyushu City has launched a new initiative to build a cluster for the “physical AI” industry, which focuses on AI-powered autonomous robots and real-world applications. Taiwan-based semiconductor design company Advanced Chiplets Technology Ltd has established a research and development base at the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, becoming the first Taiwanese semiconductor-related firm to locate there. The company plans to conduct research on chiplet design, a technology that combines multiple semiconductor chips to improve performance, and expects to expand its local team over the next one to two years. The city also launched a public-private-academic strategy council that includes representatives from Yaskawa Electric, the Kyushu Institute of Technology, and other organizations. Officials aim to finalize an industry strategy by August and open a physical AI implementation hub during fiscal 2026. Source: Nikkei / Kitakyushu City
