Kitakyushu Air Terminal, the company that operates the terminal building at Kitakyushu Airport, has added a new cargo bay to handle international cargo in order to accommodate the increased volume of inbound cargo and to attract new cargo flights. The new cargo bay will cover an area of 1,240 m2, more than twice the area of the existing bay, bringing the total floor area to 2,115 m2. Although passenger flights dwindled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, international cargo volume hit a record high for the fourth consecutive year, reaching nearly 20,000 tons last fiscal year, mainly due to an increase in scheduled cargo flights to and from South Korea.
