Kitakyushu City Council Reforms Net 120 Million Yen

The four main political groups of the Kitakyushu City Council have agreed on reforms that would reduce the remuneration and policy research allowances paid to council members. They had already decided to eliminate the transportation allowance paid for attending council and committee meetings, and to reduce by half the number of members allowed to take overseas trips on official business. The savings are expected to net 123 million yen. The legislation to put these reforms into effect is expected to be passed in February. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun
