Kitakyushu City: On Route to Becoming Wind Power Generation Hub

Tokyo-based Nippon Steel Engineering has produced and dispatched 14 ‘jackets’ – ladder-like foundational structures for offshore wind turbines – from its factory in Kitakyushu City to Ishikari Bay, Hokkaido. Standing up to 48 meters tall and weighing 780 tons, these jackets form part of an initiative by Kitakyushu City to become a hub for wind power-related industries. The city is also planning to install 25 wind turbines across 2,700 hectares of the Hibiki-Nada Sea, aiming to start operations by 2025. Source: Nikkei
