Kitakyushu Groups Propose New Development Council

Four major business organizations in Kitakyushu proposed creating a new urban strategy council on May 11 to coordinate redevelopment and industrial growth among government, academia, and the private sector. The proposed “Kitakyushu Regional Strategy Promotion Council (KDC)” would aim to accelerate decision-making and project implementation as the city attracts investment linked to offshore wind power, semiconductors, data centers, automotive industries, and steel manufacturing. The proposal also highlighted planned infrastructure projects, including runway expansion at Kitakyushu Airport and the proposed Shimonoseki-Kitakyushu Road. Business leaders said the organization would focus on redevelopment around Kokura and Kurosaki stations and seek participation from corporations and universities. Representatives from four economic groups submitted the proposal to Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi at City Hall. Source: Nikkei / KBC News
