Kitakyushu has launched a new tour program for foreign visitors featuring early morning fish market auctions and sushi dining experiences as part of its campaign to promote the city as a “sushi capital.” A monitor tour held on May 22 welcomed participants from the United States and New Zealand to the city’s central wholesale seafood market, where they observed tuna cutting demonstrations and live auctions. Visitors later sampled sushi at a market restaurant and praised the freshness of local seafood. City officials said the initiative aims to showcase not only sushi itself but also the broader food culture, including seafood handling and freshness management techniques. Four official tours for overseas tourists are scheduled between June and November, with reservations already open. Source: TNC News / Kitakyushu City
