Kitakyushu will establish a council bringing together residents, the developer and city officials to discuss a proposed data center in Wakamatsu Ward. Mayor Takeuchi announced the plan on Oct. 15 after residents raised concerns about the site, which is beside an elementary school. At an Oct. 10 briefing, the developer indicated that the planned November construction start would be postponed until later in the current fiscal year. The city aims to hold the first council meeting in November and continue meeting regularly from next year. Takeuchi said the discussions should lead to concrete measures addressing the issues raised.
