Kitakyushu City recorded a net in-migration of 341 people from January to November 2025, exceeding the same period last year and making a second consecutive year of population inflow likely, according to city estimates. A total of 39,630 people moved into the city, compared with 39,289 who moved out, surpassing last year’s net gain of 277. The trend follows a net increase of 492 people in 2024, the city’s first in-migration year in six decades. Officials attributed the inflow to employment growth linked to IT investment, manufacturing jobs, and an increase in foreign residents attending language schools. Rising housing prices in the Fukuoka metropolitan area have also improved the city’s appeal to families. Meanwhile, natural population decline continued, with deaths far exceeding births.
