Kitakyushu City has begun soliciting ideas from private companies for the future use of a 4,400 m2 city-owned waterfront plot in Moji Ward that has remained undeveloped since 2015. The city aims to revitalize the area and contribute to the vibrancy of the coastal district. A prior redevelopment plan involving a complex with restaurants and a spa facility was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the site’s proximity to the popular Mojiko Retro tourist area, proposals must include not only usage concepts but also strategies for integrating with the surrounding environment. Submitted ideas will be reviewed and announced in late September, with selected concepts reflected in future development plans. Source: Kitakyushu City
