Kitakyushu Stabbing: 4,000 Students Stay Home, Counseling Provided

In response to the recent fatal stabbing incident involving two middle school students at a fast-food restaurant in Kitakyushu, over 4,000 students from local schools refrained from attending classes on December 16. This number dropped to over 2,000 on December 17. The Kitakyushu Board of Education has implemented measures to provide counseling for students expressing anxiety and has strengthened patrols during school commutes in cooperation with parents and police.

The affected middle school reopened on December 17 following a temporary closure. Counseling has been provided to students at the school, with additional support available citywide. Families may also opt for online classes as an alternative. Source: NHK
