According to the Kyushu Transportation Bureau, the total number of passengers on ferries linking Korea to Kyushu and Yamaguchi fell 2.5% year-on-year to 604,000 for the for period from April to September 2013. Due to a weak yen and a strong won, the number of Japanese passengers fell 34.9% y-o-y to 111,000, the lowest number on record; however, the number of Korean passengers increased 8.8% y-o-y to 477,000, the highest number on record. Korean passenger numbers have increased every month for 17 months since March 2012, but the number Japanese passengers has fallen every month for 14 months due to the weak yen and the Takeshima/Dokdo issue.
