Kumamoto Prefecture has seen a significant recovery in the number of tourists visiting the prefecture. According to the prefecture’s report, the number of tourists who stayed overnight in Kumamoto for sightseeing in 2017 was 7,241,977 and exceeded the norm of the years before the severe earthquake. Besides, the number of foreign tourists who stayed overnight in Kumamoto in 2017 has marked the record highest (740,876) thanks to promotional efforts in Asian countries.
