Ecogenomics, a venture capital-backed company in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, became the first firm in Japan to purchase and use the machinery for manufacturing DNA chips, which analyze thousands of genes simultaneously. These devices are used to detect the effect of the environment and chemicals on our genes. The company bought two machines for a combined total of about 100 million yen.
