A Kyushu University research group discovered genes to accelerate the generation of eggs. Together with more researchers at the University of Washington, the group found eight genes that convert iPS cells and ES cells of a mouse into cells that are quite similar to egg cells. The researchers also confirmed cell divisions of fertilized eggs. While the creation of egg cells from mouse stem cells formerly took about a month to produce some thousands, the discovery enables hundreds of thousands of eggs within five days.
