Kyuden Transmission and Distribution, a subsidiary of Kyushu Electric Power, announced on June 8 that it had lost a solid-state drive (SSD) containing personal information linked to about 10.9 million customer records, covering nearly all electricity users on Kyushu’s mainland. The data included names, addresses, and contact details but did not contain bank account or credit card information. The company said the SSD was used for routine data transfers because of limited server capacity. The device, which was not authorized to leave the facility, was last confirmed in late April. Despite interviews with 57 people and reviews of security camera footage, it has not been found. The company said no evidence of data leakage has been identified.
