Kyushu Electric Power has established a new company, Kyuden Agrilab, to produce and ship strawberries using smart agriculture technology developed since 2019 in Asakura, Fukuoka Prefecture. The system uses electric heat pumps and AI-based data analysis to manage growing conditions, making it possible to ship strawberries as early as late September instead of the usual mid-November period. The new company will also expand cultivation areas and sales channels while offering support services to other strawberry growers. Kyushu Electric said the project is intended to improve both efficiency and quality through data-driven farming, and added that it hopes to expand the business to crops beyond strawberries in the future.
