Kyushu Electric Power Co. Ltd., (Kyuden), has announced that they intend to raise electricity prices by 10% from April, 2013. It will be the first rate rise since 1980. It is expected that most families will notice a ¥600 increase each month. Kyuden is concerned about mounting debt should their six nuclear plants continue to be shut down. The cost of producing electricity by their thermal power plants is more than their nuclear plants. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun Sep 14 http://www.nishinippon.co.jp/nnp/item/323903
