An economic trend survey released on October 4 by Teikoku Databank’s Fukuoka branch revealed a drop in Kyushu and Okinawa’s Business Conditions Diffusion Index (DI) to 47.7, down 0.6 points from the previous month. This is the first downturn in two months, affected by rising costs of raw materials and fuel. Sentiment deteriorated in 7 out of 10 industries, including finance, real estate, and transportation & warehousing. Despite the current decline, forward-looking DIs for the next three, six, and twelve months show signs of improvement, partly due to expected recovery in inbound tourism.
