Kyushu Electric Power announced that the power consumption of its large customers in August was down 1.5% from the year-before period. This is the first negative growth in this category since July 2005, a period of 37 months. Broken down by industry, there were consumption declines during the month in the steel and general machinery sector, while consumption in the auto industry, the engine of the Kyushu economy, was flat.
