Fukuoka City-based Kyushu Electric Power released the rates it planned to charge a standard household (300 kW hours used per month) for the January-March quarter. The monthly rate would rise by about 480 yen under their projections. The government asked all power companies, however, to reduce the increase by about half. Therefore, the actual increase in fees will be about 240 yen. The rise is based on a system that automatically adjusts prices every quarter based on fluctuations in the price of oil and liquid natural gas.
