Kyushu Electric Power said it will strengthen its renewable energy business in the United States through new investments in battery storage and solar power projects. Through its subsidiary Qden International, the utility invested in two battery storage projects in Texas developed by Spearmint Energy, with a combined output of 200 megawatts and capacity of 400 megawatt-hours. Operations are expected to begin within the month, marking Kyushu Electric’s first involvement in US battery storage. The company also acquired a solar power project in Pennsylvania developed by a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries affiliate, investing jointly with Tokyo Century.
