Kyushu Electric Power and Saibu Gas announced rate hikes for October due to a reduction in government subsidies. For standard households, the electric bill will increase by 875 yen to 6,126 yen, and the gas bill will rise by 310 yen to 6,181 yen. This is the first rate increase in over a year for electricity and nine months for gas. Previously, government subsidies had been reducing costs by 7 yen per kilowatt-hour for electricity and 30 yen per cubic meter for gas. These subsidies will be halved in October to 3.5 yen per kilowatt-hour and 15 yen per cubic meter. Source: Kyushu Electric Power / Nikkei
