Kyushu Electric to Install Large Battery on Ikki Island for Renewable Energy Trial

Kyushu Electric Power said that it will begin a trial for increasing the use of renewable energy on Ikki Island in Nagasaki Prefecture. The utility will receive a subsidy from the national government to conduct the trial. There are concerns that islands such as Iki, which are not connected to the national power grid, would suffer from an excessive reliance on wind or solar power. As part of the trial, Kyushu Electric will install a 4,000 kW lithium ion battery on the island. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun
