Kyushu Electric Power President Toshio Manabe revealed on the 27th that the utility would participate in Japan’s voluntary carbon emissions trading scheme for reducing greenhouse gases. The company had already made an in-house decision to participate, and they will formally apply after reviewing the procedures. This would enable Kyushu Electric to reduce emission volume by 20% compared to 1990 levels for the five-year period from 2008 to 2012.
