Kyushu Foreign Arrivals Hit Record

Foreign arrivals to Kyushu via airports and ports reached a record 5.81 million in 2025, surpassing the previous high set in 2018, according to the Kyushu Transport Bureau. Visitors from South Korea accounted for the largest share at about 2.7 million, or 46 percent, followed by China and Taiwan. Although Chinese arrivals briefly declined in December amid political tensions, annual totals increased overall, supported by cruise travel. European markets also saw notable growth, with arrivals from Russia, Italy, and Spain rising significantly. Officials said diversified source markets helped sustain inbound growth and emphasized continued efforts to improve tourism infrastructure across the region.
