Kyushu Foreign Visitors Surge, Nears Pre-Pandemic Levels

According to an announcement by the Kyushu Transport Bureau on July 24th, the number of foreign travelers entering Kyushu in June totaled 244,776 (preliminary figures, excluding cruise ship tourists). This marks the sixth consecutive month with over 200,000 visitors, recovering to 82% of the pre-pandemic levels of June 2019 (299,689, excluding cruise ship tourists).

An official from the Kyushu Transport Bureau pointed to the resumption of flights from mainland China at Fukuoka Airport as well as flights from Seoul and Hong Kong at Oita and Kagoshima airports, respectively, as reasons for the increase. As more international regular flights are expected to restart from July onwards, further growth in visitor numbers is anticipated. Source: Kyushu Transport Bureau / Nikkei
