A seafood company based in Fukuoka City signed a contract to sell its horse mackerel fry at the San Diego Padres’ home stadium, marking a rare entry of a Kyushu regional dish into a U.S. Major League Baseball venue. The product is made by Sanyo, which operates the popular Sanyo Shokudo restaurant in Fukuoka and manages seafood production from fishing to processing. The deal followed interest from Padres officials who sampled the fried fish and were familiar with Japanese ballpark food culture. Sanyo already sells a similar menu item at the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks’ stadium. Under the agreement, horse mackerel fry will be sold at the Padres’ stadium for three seasons starting next year, introducing the Kyushu specialty to American baseball fans.
