Kyushu Trade Surplus Continues for Third Month, Driven by Strong Auto Exports

The Kyushu economic region, including Okinawa and Yamaguchi, reported a trade surplus of 144.8 billion yen in April, marking the third consecutive month of surplus. The surge in auto exports to China and the U.S., along with robust semiconductor exports, drove the export value up by 12.2% from the same month last year to 1.391 trillion yen. This marks the 24th consecutive month of year-on-year export increases and the highest April figure since 1979. Conversely, imports fell by 3.5% to 894.2 billion yen, primarily due to reduced imports of coal and liquefied natural gas. Moji Customs noted the increase in auto exports as a key factor in the trade surplus but highlighted concerns over declining exports to the EU. Source: Moji Customs / NHK
