The operators of various transportation facilities in Kyushu released information on their use during the Golden Week holidays. There was a sharp increase of 25.6% on average of expressways. This was attributed to a special holiday discount offered in conjunction with the introduction of the new electronic toll collection system. The use of railroads fell from the previous year, however, with ridership of limited express trains down 7.6% and the Kyushu Shinkansen down 11.2%.
