Kyushu University announced that patient information stored on a laboratory computer may have been exposed following a ransomware attack. The incident was discovered on May 25 when a faculty member found a threatening message displayed after starting the device. According to the university, the computer contained the names of 43 Kyushu University Hospital patients and surgical video data. While there is no confirmed evidence that the information has been published or misused, the university said it cannot rule out the possibility of external data leakage. The affected computer was immediately disconnected from the network, and the university has begun notifying and apologizing to affected patients. Hospital clinical systems and electronic medical records were not affected because they operate on separate networks. Source: NHK News / Kyushu University Hospital
