Tapping into its world-class superconductor technology, Kyushu University has begun ramping up research and development into producing the next generation of aircraft, including electric airplanes and flying cars. The development of electric vehicles is garnering widespread attention as a means to reduce CO2 emissions amid the rising demand for air travel around the world. Instead of fossil fuel powered jet engines, a fan driven by an electric motor would generate the propulsion needed to lift a plane into the air, thereby reducing CO2 emissions considerably. Kyushu University opened the Center for Electric Propelled Flight this April on Ito Campus, and it aims to test fly an aircraft by 2029. Source: fiba.jp
