Kyushu’s Hourly Wages Remain Low

A survey conducted by three newspaper companies in Kyushu revealed that almost 90% of workers consider the local minimum wages too low. Minimum wages for 2021 fell below the national average (¥930/hr) in all prefectures in Kyushu and Okinawa, with the highest of ¥870/hr in Fukuoka. Besides the very low standard of ¥820~822/hr in the other seven prefectures, a national index combining minimum wages with goods prices also showed little, or no progress had been made to increase local wages.
