Kyushu’s Trade Surplus With U.S. Exceeds ¥1 Trillion For First Time

According to preliminary customs data released April 17, Kyushu’s trade surplus with the United States reached a record ¥1.035 trillion in FY2024—the first time it has exceeded the ¥1 trillion mark. This marks the 42nd consecutive year of surplus and a 16% increase from the previous year. Overall exports rose 6% to ¥12.71 trillion, driven by a 15% increase in automobile exports. Imports fell 3% to ¥10.65 trillion, resulting in a total trade surplus of ¥2.06 trillion. Export growth was also seen in semiconductors and electronic components, which rose 10%.
