Laox to Open First Store in Kitakyushu

The duty-free shopping chain Laox is set to open their first store in Kitakyushu. This will be the company’s fifth branch in Fukuoka Prefecture. The shop will be located on the site of the former home furniture brand Sakoda, on the basement floor of the Kitakyushu Riverwalk facility. Laox hopes to attract foreign visitors, especially with the increase of Chinese tourists visiting the city from the Dalian-Kitakyushu flights as well as the number of cruise ships that regularly stop at the port. The store also hopes to follow the success of the duty-free store Seikatsu Hiroba that opened near Kokura Station in the summer of 2017. Laox plans to open the recently acquired property in time for the upcoming Chinese New Year. The company is also looking at the possibility of creating an on-site area that will give tourists the chance to experience Japanese culture. Source: My Living, 12/25/2017
