Latest Start to Rainy Season on Record for Kyushu

Northern Kyushu is experiencing the latest start for a rainy season since records were kept beginning in 1951. The prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, and Yamaguchi are still waiting for the arrival of the rainy season as of June 23. While the rainy season normally starts around June 5, a high pressure sits on the south of Japan and causing sluggish movements of the seasonal rain front. Sunny and cloudy weather is expected for another few days and some of the municipalities have begun to conserve the use of water reflecting the low water level at dams.
