JR Kyushu and the Lawson’s convenience store chain announced that roughly 430 of the chain’s outlets in Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima prefectures would begin accepting the railroad’s Sugoca contactless payment card in lieu of cash for purchases starting April 20. Customers will also be able to deposit money in the card at the outlets, though no points will be awarded. The Sugoca card can already be used in roughly 340 Lawson’s outlets in Fukuoka Prefecture. As of the end of this month, it can be used in 5,000 different stores in the region.
