In the July 20 Upper House election for Fukuoka’s three-seat district, Masaji Matsuyama (LDP, incumbent) topped the poll with 419,082 votes, followed by newcomer Yuko Nakata (Sanseitō) with 385,592 votes, and Rokuta Shimono (Komeito, incumbent) with 320,391 votes. These three candidates secured the available seats. The ruling coalition (LDP and Komeito) maintained its two-seat share, while the Constitutional Democratic Party lost its seat for the first time since the district’s expansion to three seats in 2016. This marks Sanseitō’s first victory in the constituency.
