The Fukuoka branch of the Development Bank of Japan released the results of its survey of Kyushu prefectures and municipalities regarding their utilization of public land no longer used due to municipal mergers and school consolidation. More than 70% of the prefectures and municipalities responding said they had not used that land at all in the past three years. The bank suggested that better use might be made of these unused assets in light of the fiscal crisis in local governments.
