A 50-year-old man drowned while volunteering at a middle school long-distance swimming event near Nokonoshima Island in Fukuoka City on the morning of July 18. The man, identified as Kenji Matsui, was accompanying students when he was found floating face down by a safety boat. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead about an hour and a half later.
