A man believed to be in his 20s was found unconscious in an apartment in Fukuoka City’s Higashi Ward on January 8 and later died, police said. Emergency services were called at around 2:30 p.m. after a man claiming to be an acquaintance reported that the victim had collapsed while sparring. Police responding to the apartment in the Higashihama area found the man unconscious with visible injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead about two hours later. Police were working to confirm the victim’s identity and were questioning the man who made the emergency call, while investigating the circumstances surrounding the sparring activity and the cause of death.
