Massive Fly Outbreak at Kyushu University’s Abandoned School Test Site in Kama

Kyushu University has disclosed an unintended fly infestation at a disused elementary school in Kama City, where the institution was conducting experiments with beetles for livestock feed production. The outbreak began last December and escalated until mid-March when flies invaded nearby residences. The university, which refrained from using insecticides initially to avoid harming the beetles, has since apologized to local residents and taken measures to control the infestation. A third-party committee has been established to prevent such incidents in the future. Source: NHK
