Micro Car Trials to Start 2013

The Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport has announced that they will hold a 3 year trial across Japan of the newly developed “micro car”, starting 2013. The project was conceived by Fukuoka’s Governor in 2009. The micro car, which features a futuristic design and fits up to two people, is run mainly by electricity. It’s novel size is somewhere in between that of a scooter and a low displacement car- making it easy to maneuver. The design is also ideal for elderly drivers, with large doors and a floor low to the ground. Experimental trials of the micro car will begin in 2013 in Japan with financial support from the government for companies wishing to lease or purchase the cars. During this time, the micro cars will only be available to purchase or lease by select companies, and not individuals. The Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport will also alter sections of the traffic regulation act to include the micro car.
