Kitakyushu Mayor Kenji Kitahashi visited Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, to confirm in person the necessity for the city to accept debris from the Tohoku disaster for incineration and to discuss the issue with Miyagi Gov. Yoshihiro Murai and Ishinomaki Mayor Hiroshi Kameyama. The Tohoku officials said that clearing the debris by early summer was essential to start work on building homes for those still homeless. Mayor Kitahashi said he confirmed the need, and will make a final decision within the month after calling a town meeting.
