Model Project for Plastic Waste Collection Started in Fukuoka City

To promote plastic waste recycling, Fukuoka City started a model project on May 23 to collect wash basins and buckets separately. Twenty items, including wash basins, buckets, hangers, etc., are targeted for collection, while plastic containers and packaging, such as lunchbox containers and plastic shopping bags, are not included in this collection. The city will accept the items at nine public facilities in the city, including the Higashi Ward Office and the Central Gymnasium, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. until the end of March next year and ask citizens to bring them in. Fukuoka City intends to recycle the collected plastic waste and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted during incineration and will examine the effectiveness of the program and consider whether to implement it on a full scale. The nine collection sites are Higashi Ward Office, Jonan Ward Office, Sawara Ward Office , Nishi Ward Office, Seibu Sub-branch, Irube Sub-branch, Hakata Civic Center, Minami Civic Center, Central Gymnasium.
