Moji Heritage Building To Become Hotel

Kitakyushu City will sell the former JR Kyushu headquarters building near JR Mojiko Station for conversion into a hotel. Public proposals for the project will be accepted starting in June, with a preferred developer selected by October. Built in 1937, the six-story structure is part of the nationally designated Japan Heritage site “Nostalgic Kanmon Strait.” The city aims to enhance tourism in the Mojiko Retro District, which celebrated its 30th anniversary. The building, unused for over 20 years, will be sold with conditions that preserve its modern American-style architecture. A previous hotel plan by a Hong Kong investment firm failed due to funding issues in 2023. The new project is expected to cost several billion yen, including land acquisition. Source: NHK
