More Test Positive for COVID-19 in Kitakyushu – Attendance at Some Schools Down

On June 2, Kitakyushu City announced six more confirmed infections of the new coronavirus. The cumulative total for the city for the past eleven days is 119. According to the city, PCR tests are currently conducted on those who came into close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients, regardless of the development of symptoms. As a result, more than half of the recent patients (52 of 97 cases found during May 23 ~ 31) were tested positive despite not showing symptoms. Also, it was reported that nearly twenty percent of students at Moritsune Elementary School and two neighboring elementary schools failed to attend classes on June 1. Fears of becoming infected with the virus are believed to be the reason. The daily cases bring the cumulative total for Fukuoka Prefecture to 780.
