Nagasaki Prefecture Inserting Oxygen to Isahaya Bay

Nagasaki Prefecture has begun trials to insert concentrated oxygen in the Isahaya Bay to counteract the severe depletion that threatens the young clam population. The trial will be conducted until September, and the results will be shared with Saga, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto Prefectures to enable them to work together on the problem. The prefecture will dispatch floating platforms that pump up to 46,000 tons of seawater into a device that inserts the oxygen. The water is then returned to the sea.
