After an appeal to the public for ideas for the name for the new gate being built at 1 Hakataekimae, the name Tsujinodoguchimon and nickname Hakatasennennomon have been announced. The gate is designed in the image of Hakata in the Middle Ages, when the city flourished as a center for trade. The name Tsujinodoguchi, has been used since the Middle Ages as the gate connecting Dazaifu to Hakata. The name Hakatasennen, suggested by a 67 year old local resident, reflects the 1,000 years of history of Hakata. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, Feb. 14
