National Convention of Mountain Day to be Held in Kuju, Oita

The fifth edition of the National Convention of Mountain Day will take place in the Kuju area of Oita Prefecture in August of 2020. According to the announcement by the prefecture, the convention began in 2016 when Mountain Day became a national holiday. The event aims to encourage people to think more about mountains; their history and culture, sustainability, and the future through special talks and trekking activities. Oita Prefecture presented itself as the candidate venue as it has abundant natural resources including mountains and hot springs. This will be the first time that the convention takes place in Kyushu and the prefecture is eager to widen the appeal of the Kuju area. Source: Oita Godo Shimbun, 5/23/2019
